Gill works with the Distance Learning Support Unit (DLSU) - a service with Learning Resources at Middlesex University as an Off Campus Support Manager. The DLSU aims to provide, as far as possible, the same services and support to students studying at a distance as provided to students on campus.

•    Register with us – there is a form on the website, linked at the top of this page.

•    Postal deliveries of books and photocopies in the Middlesex collection.

•    Photocopies from the British library can be sent direct to your home.

•    Books from both can be collected from any of our campuses.

•    Advice and support can be found at the Webhelpdesk, messages can be left at any time: http://webhelpdesk.mdx.ac.uk/

•    Services include subject resources, advice on appropriate materials and accessing databases.

Please use this opportunity to find out more about the work of the DLSU and find out how we can support you with your research.

Hi Gill,

I am having problems playing your sound file!

Funny during this course I had so many questions but I am knee deep in unit 4 that they don't seem important now.

Hi Marion,

Sorry you can't access the file, I'll notify the technical staff to the problem.

Even if you don't get a chance to listen to my dulcet tones it could be worth your while to check out the services that we can offer (click on the DLSU link at the top of the page). You never know, it could save you valuable time in the future... Gill

Dear Gill,
I live abroad at the moment and I found that many of the resources (books) are unavailbe to me because of this, in fact since I started the course last I have not been able to access anything from the library. Do you have any ebooks that are relevant to my research (action research) if so how do I get hold of them? Can I borrow them online, how does it work?

I think this is a common problem and one that I hope will become easier in the future as more ebooks are developed. I'm sure that Gill will be able to expand on this and explain h0ow things might improve as technology moves on.
How did you get on using ERIC? Was that accessible for you? Ruth

Dear Ruth,

I have tried using ERIC and hopefully it will be useful. Thank you for your recommendation.

Hi,

Apologies for the late reply. Will get back to you asap with a list of e-resources relevant to your research. If we hold e-books on your subject they will be very easy to access. In the meantime, have you looked at our catalogue? Although it can be a lengthy process the DLSU can post books to you...... let me have the title of a book that you are searching for I can have a look for you.

Dear Gill,

Thank you, but I live in the Middle East and it maybe difficult for you send the books to me. I will try and have another look at the e-resources.

Hi Gill

Thanks for your intro. I will go and search for information in the learning resource. I too cannot open the sound file. I can play Ruths introductory one, perhaps it could be prepared in that format.

Thanks

Morag

using DLSU

Hi Gill I have just gone throught the process of ordering a book. It was quite complicated. Is it possible to cut and paste the library referencing as one block onto the request form? Morag

using DLSU

Hi Morag,

No sorry, if you try it as a whole block it loses the formatting and just looks a mess. I've just tried it and it is possible line by line which is not good but better than typing the whole thing!

Gill

Thanks Gill

Hi Gill, Its great to have your replies - so much that we can all learn from you and make life simpler. Thanks, Ruth

Dissertations

Posted by rgreen2 at Oct 20, 2009 12:05 PM
Gill, Just been thinking of all the excellent dissertations that have come in over the years and which are stored in the library. I intend to compile a list of titles to guide students when they reach that stage of the MA so they can see what previous students have studied. I suppose we could also scan in the Abstract but have you any other ideas for making these more accessible for students who can't get into Trent Park?
Thanks, Ruth

Hi Diena

There are a few e-books on Action Research. Go to Learning Resources, Electronic Resources, E-books, click on Dawsonera. You will then need to log-in. Do a basic search and a few titles should come up. You can also find e-books via the library catalogue. Monica, Senior Liaison Librarian for Education
