2a. What topic and why?

TractionWhat topic and why?

What is your focus and why are you doing it?

I guess you will immediately leap to some practical reasons? You have a class. The school wants you to develop something? Its part of a national strategy and policy? To impact on standards?

But there are other reasons

  • To get your MA!  Then have you read succesful examples?
  • To reveal some insights for other researchers, practitioners?
  • To contribute to our evidence base and knowledge about what is effective?

You might what to answer questions

  • What is going on here?
  • What happens when?
  • What is affects what?

The questions might be answered by reading but we would also like you to answer the questions by "empirically", that is by researching through collecting and analysing data. This research will:

  • aim to find new insights and knowledge
  • be generalizable
  • be trustworthy, balanced, and fair
  • be ethical

So what is your topic and why are we interested?

I have been notified that I will be working with Paul Morral on inclusive performing arts and I am hope I can get to work with chicken shed. I also believe that my Module will start in May. Is that correct?

Which topic and why

The focus for my topic will be a case study of the effectiveness of our new Foundation Stage Unit in securing good outcomes for children in the Early Years Foundation Stage. I believe that this case study will be important for practitioners as it will enable them to identify, implement and develop good practice in the EYFS.

It is important for our school as: we continually strive to improve outcomes for children in the Early Years Foundation Stage; we need to ensure that identified school improvement and Ofsted priorities are met; we will be contributing to national and local strategies and targets.

Within my LA the integration of Nursery and Reception age children within a maintained school is unusual and I would therefore welcome the opportunity of exploring this area with anyone else who may have some experience of this approach.
